Our Mission
The Centre’s mission extends beyond immediate care, focusing on rescuing children from poverty, restoring their dignity, and eventually reintegrating them as empowered individuals into society. Over the years, the Centre has seen numerous success stories. Hundreds of children have found a home at the Christ Church Christian Care Centre, receiving education and forming a personal connection with Jesus Christ. Many of these children have gone on to complete high school, and some have even pursued higher education, embodying the Centre’s impact on their lives.

More About Our Team & Our History
Mike Sunker took on the role of pastor at Christ Church in Hillbrow. He quickly recognized the urgent needs of the community, particularly the homeless and destitute children. This led to the establishment of a soup kitchen and a special Sunday service, marking the first steps towards what would become the Christ Church Christian Care Centre.
Mike Sunker, along with Renu Sunker, were the foundational pillars of the Centre. Their vision was to offer more than just physical support; they aimed to provide holistic care that encompassed educational, emotional, and spiritual growth. In July 2000, this vision took a concrete shape when a property in Hillbrow’s Berea section was acquired, offering a safe haven for children.

More About Our Team & Our History
Following Mike Sunker’s passing in April 2021, his son Ajith Sunker took over as CEO. Ajith, having grown up assisting his father, continues the legacy alongside his wife Sarah Sunker, the Managing Director. Together, they lead the Centre with dedication and a deep understanding of its mission and vision.
The Centre’s story is one of resilience, faith, and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of South Africa’s children in need.
